Devlog #1



Overall Progress:

Created our first prototype/initial build for our game. Added a collection mechanic to the existing game structure/idea. Discussed feasibility and ways we could alter the game idea in a way that reduces scope. We also finalized our idea for a third-person camera perspective. 

Art Team:

The art team focused on brainstorming ideas for characters, environment, and overall aesthetics. Proposed a low poly art style, a game with an open environment, and South Asian festival-like aesthetics.

Music Team:

The music team discussed the issue of writing music for the culture to which we do not natively belong. During the game jam, we made a rough music track and some of the essential sound effects as well as an ambience looping track.

CS Team:

We built upon our game jam prototype, refining the flight controls to feel more kinematic and fluid. Initially, we imported a library that enabled basic flight mechanics, giving the kite a space-shippy movement style. We made a collectible system that triggered when our flight went through a ring. Our focus this week was on iterating upon this system to create more natural-feeling movement.

Future Plans:

Future plans include beginning to work on the combat system, creating low poly assets, clearly defining the game idea with a robust goal, and further discussing scope. 

Challenges and Discoveries:

Programming flight might be a challenge in itself. We might need to reconsider if we want our game to have combat at all.
